Scientist, In vivo Pharmacology, Oncology Targeted Discovery
Scientist, In vivo Pharmacology, Oncology Targeted Discovery
Are you passionate about oncology research and development? Do you want to make a real impact by turning scientific ideas into life-changing medicines? Join AstraZeneca as a Scientist in cancer pharmacology within our Oncology Targeted Discovery group in Waltham, Massachusetts. Here, you'll be a vital part of a team dedicated to advancing in vivo pharmacology support. Your expertise will help establish mouse models and assay systems, delivering crucial datasets that drive our drug discovery process forward.
Accountabilities:
In this laboratory-based role, you'll design, execute, and analyze in vivo and ex vivo experiments to evaluate the function and mechanisms of promising oncology drug candidates. You'll generate high-quality data to support cross-functional project teams, working closely with senior scientists and project leaders. Your contributions will be essential to the progress of our oncology research programs and scientific publication goals. As an organized and motivated scientist, you'll enhance your knowledge in tumor biology, pharmacology, and cancer modeling while collaborating in a dynamic research environment.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- You must hold a BS/MS with at least three years of relevant research experience in biology, pharmacology, or a related discipline.
- You should have hands-on experience with in vivo oncology models, which could include subcutaneous xenograft, patient-derived xenograft (PDX), syngeneic, or humanized mouse models.
- Experience performing in vivo pharmacology studies in these models - covering areas such as dose-finding tolerability, PK/PD, and basic efficacy studies - is required, as is familiarity with standard dosing techniques including intravenous (IV), intraperitoneal (IP), and oral gavage (PO).
- Your laboratory skill set includes foundational in vitro techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, or ELISA/MSD.
- You are able to collect, document, and clearly communicate experimental data, with an understanding of its relevance to the broader objectives of drug discovery.
- You show initiative and can work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to follow guidance from senior team members.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Previous experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, particularly in oncology-focused roles, is a plus.
- Familiarity with in vivo studies involving antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), or with mouse models resistant to cancer therapies, will be advantageous.
- Additional experience with syngeneic mouse models relevant to immuno-oncology, participation in multi-spectral flow cytometry studies, or assisting with the training of junior staff, will also be beneficial.
- Some understanding of the industrial drug discovery process is desirable.
